UNC-Chapel Hill INLS 382: System Analysis and Development

A cummulative class project focused on app development, product ideation, technical requirements, and product management.

Product Overview

Managing multiple medications and supplements can be overwhelming—missed doses or incorrect intake can have serious consequences. Our team created MediTrack, a mobile app designed to reduce this cognitive burden by providing dosage tracking, reminders, and pharmacy/doctor integration.

The Problem

Busy individuals struggle to keep track of prescriptions, times, and food requirements.

Missed or incorrect dosages can cause serious health risks.

Current solutions lack personalization and integration with healthcare providers

Persona

Persona: Alba Castro (UNC Student, 20 years old)

  • Motivations: Peace of mind, quick access to medication info, reliable reminders.

  • Frustrations: Forgetting doses, wasting time finding dosage info, calling medical offices repeatedly.

  • Scenario: Alba juggles school, work, and clubs. She often forgets medications and wants an app that organizes everything in one place.

Product Vision and Goals

Vision: Reduce the mental load of managing medications while improving health outcomes.

  • Goals:

    • Send smart reminders for dosage & timing.

    • Integrate with pharmacies for refills.

    • Provide secure communication with healthcare providers.

    • Deliver adherence reports to doctors.

Key Features

  • Secure login for privacy

  • Patient portal integration

  • Smart reminder system (push notifications, text, email)

  • Alerts to healthcare professionals if critical doses are missed

  • In-app chat with doctors

Technical Planning

Workplan (PERT Analysis):

  • Early development & testing completed in ~6 weeks

  • Beta launch planned at 2 weeks after test fixes

  • Total estimated timeline: 35.5 weeks

Feasibility (Cost Estimate):

  • Developers (5) + Project Manager salaries

  • Hardware, training, office space

  • Final estimated cost: $344,763.50

Outcomes and Reflections

This project taught us how to:

  • Translate user needs into requirements and wireframes

  • Balance technical feasibility with user experience

  • Collaborate across research, design, and technical planning
